Kefi (κέφι) is the second painting in my art collection Greek Summers

This series was created to translate into visual form a selection of my summer memories from the very first year I returned to Greece as a visitor.

Greece is, and always will be, my home—the place where I grew up, lived, laughed, cried, made mistakes, achieved, forgot, and forgave.

Each piece in this collection represents a personal memory captured through photography and later reimagined on canvas. Every painting is named after a Greek word that is either difficult or impossible to translate directly, carrying layers of meaning that exist beyond language.

Kefi is one of those Greek words that cannot be fully translated. It describes a joyful state of mind—a feeling of happiness, enthusiasm, passion, and the irresistible urge to celebrate life. It is the energy that fills a room with laughter, music, dancing, and connection.

Kefi isn't tied to a place—it’s something we carry within us. It reminds me to embrace life's simple moments, find joy in everyday experiences, and celebrate the people and places that make life meaningful.

This painting depicts a real scene from Athens, Greece when me and my sister had wine tasting with overprized cheese and laughed so hard I still remember it. To me, this represents kefi. You are with your people and have fun and deeply enjoy life no matter the circumstances. You make the kefi!
